Five of the classic creatures from the Kanto region will be receiving new Gigantamax forms in Pokémon Sword & Shield, as it has been revealed that Butterfree, Charizard, Eevee, Pikachu, and Meowth can transform into bizarre-looking giants in their next outing. Pokémon Sword & Shield have Dyanamax and Gigantamax power-ups, which allow a Pokémon to transform into a giant during battle.

All of the Pokémon in Pokémon Sword & Shield can use the Dynamax transformation, which will increase their size, boost their stats, and alter the properties of their moves for three turns. There are some Pokémon who can change into new forms using the process, which is known as Gigantamaxing. A Gigantamax Pokémon will be able to use an incredibly powerful G-Max Move that can easily turn the tide of battle. The infamous Pokémon Sword & Shield leak from 4chan stated that Lapras, Pikachu, and Meowth would receive Gigantamax forms in the future.

The Pokémon Sword & Shield leak continues to be legitimate, as Serebii has revealed that the cover for the latest issue of CoroCoro Ichiban shows Gigantamax forms for Charizard, Eevee, Pikachu, and Meowth. Charizard’s new form gives it wings of fire, Eevee’s small mane of hair is now massive, Pikachu now resembles its original chubby form from the older Pokémon games, and Meowth looks like the old longcat meme. The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel has since been updated with a trailer showing off the new Gigantamax forms, which also revealed a Gigantamax version of Butterfree.

Gigantamax Pikachu can use the G-Max Volt Crash move, which paralyzes all opponents. The people with Play Records of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu can receive this Pokémon. Gigantamax Eevee can use G-Max Cuddle, which causes Pokémon of the opposite gender to become infatuated. The people with Play records of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! can receive this Pokémon. Gigantamax Charizard can use G-Max Wildfire, which causes all non-Fire-type Pokémon to receive damage for four turns. Gigantamax Butterfree can use G-Max Befuddle, which causes Poison, Paralysis, or Asleep status effects. The people who purchase Pokémon Sword & Shield between November 15 and January 15 will receive a Gigantamax Meowth as a free bonus download. Gigantamax Meowth can use the G-Max Gold Rush move, which confuses all enemies and gives an in-game cash bonus.

Pokémon Sword & Shield has heavily referenced Pokémon Red & Blue with its addition of Galarian forms and regional evolutions. The Internet lost its mind over Sirfetch’d, the new evolution of Farfetch’d, as well as the new Psychic-type version of Ponyta. The Pokémon franchise has seen a nostalgia boom following the success of Pokémon Go, so it makes sense that Game Freak would want to promote the original 151 Pokémon as much as possible, as its clear that a lot of people still have a great deal of affection for their old friends from Pokémon Red & Blue and would want to see them again in Pokémon Sword & Shield.
